Imogen Heath

Imogen Heath is one of UK's most exciting new textiles designers. Her bright and elegant designs are created in Imogen's studio and then produced either by hand or in British mills. She describes her design process as being:
‘all about retaining the same feeling of excitement and Joy that comes to me when I have an idea for a pattern, or when I draw something for the first time. I hope that by successfully taking these feelings through to the finished piece I can somehow bring that same delight into people’s surroundings’.

Something else I recently discovered through Imogen's blog is that she is related to interiors stylist and author Amanda Talbot (previously Amanda Heath)! Turns out they are sisters-in-law!

Anyway, if you're interested to find Imogen's products in Australia, click here.

Jon Thom

So i recently found out about New Zealander Jon Thom over at Studio Home and had to show you! His artwork is perfect. I can't explain why they are great... i think its the rawness seen through the greyscale and the emotions of the peoples faces he creates... eh just watch the video. It's great.

Ontwerpduo

Completing their studies at the Design Academy in 2008, Dutch design duo Tineke Beunders and Nathan Wierink couldn't wait to get their creations into the marketplace. Known as 'a dreamer and a mathematician', the duo work with simplicity as the key as Tineke's wistful approach blends perfectly with Nathan's mathematical line of attack.
Here's a look at some of their quirky and inspiring work.

Cottage Town - where ordinary potplants are turned into a mini village of huge trees or fields.

Light Forest - custom made lighting that 'grows where other lights will not go' for on the ceiling or walls.

Cageling - "quietly daydreaming in your own space, but not sealed from the surroundings. Swinging with your toes in the grass, and your back against a soft pillow. Not captured, but free as a bird."

Rockid - a rocking chair and cradle in one.

Craft Victoria

Craft Victoria has the cutest selection of locally made products. Some of my favourites are necklaces by Emily Green or the mobiles by Made by Mosey (which i have written about here).
Recently I was having a browse through the accessories and discovered three different types of coin purses that are just gorgeous! The Mingus Purses are screen printed, Mittoo uses digital prints and original weavings to create their retro, patchwork style of purse, and Scotatto hand screen print onto leather to create their bold designs.

Ro Chair

This is a cool video about a new lounge chair coming out in September by Fritz Hansen. Pretty keen...

Emby Love

On the weekend, J and I went out to Rouse Hills' Boutique Markets for brunch and a browse... One stall stood out to me from all the clothes and jewellery stalls... Emby Love is a picnic blanket stall started by an at-home mum who has taught herself to sew. Read the full story on the website (here), it's just a little bit cute!

Wool Week

This week Australia has been celebrating Wool Week. Some of Australia's top fashion and interiors retailers are in to support the spotlight on wools' natural qualities and versatilities. The official Wool Week is 29th April to 5th May but many stores will continue with their wool displays until the end of June. This year the Campaign for Wool has partnered with interiors brands Orson & Blake, Fanuli, King Furniture, Workshopped, Supa Centre Moore Park, Designer Rugs and Great Dane, among many more.

Due to wools versatile, resilient and innovative features it is becoming more and more accessible for interiors. Wool will stand years of wear and tear, even more so now with the new technologies involved in creation of interior products like upholstery, carpets, curtains, cushions etc.

To launch Wool Week in Australia, artist Magda Sayeg (previously mentioned here) has created 6m tall knitted tree coverings at The Strand Arcade.

Fashion brands Camilla & Marc, Collette Dinnigan, Ellery, David Jones, Gorman, Kookai, Sambag and many more have celebrated wool week through in-store merchandising and window displays.

Country Road has created a video exploring the tactility of wool clothing (watch below).
