Art-filled Chelsea Apartment

Allan Schwartzman, 54 is an art collector. Even before owning a space to that could display his art, Schwartzman amassed exactly the right pieces that he'd need one day in his dreamed-of New York apartment. He explains "before I started buying art I thought I'd collect it. I knew someday I would move, and just hoped it fit whatever place I moved to."

When Schwartzman found his luxury Chelsea high-rise 11th Avenue Residence designed by Jean Nouvel, he started over with all that he had in storage - modern Brazilian furniture and his collection of art. What was originally a three bedroom apartment was converted into what he calls "a deconstructed one-bedroom."

The windows within the apartment which are of various size and are strategically positioned offer a panoramic view of the Hudson River and cityscapes to the North and East. These windows dictate how the furniture and objects were placed.

Despite the density, the apartment is not the obstacle course that it first appears. Thanks to Schwartzman's installation skills, the eye can easily take in the whole or focus on one object without another intruding.

Haptic Lab

Brooklyn based multidisciplinary design studio Haptic Lab was founded in 2009 by architect Emily Fischer. It began as a project after Emily's mum was diagnosed with glaucoma to be wayfinding tools for the visually impaired. Emily started by making quilted maps and now has extended to kites and furniture that combine traditional craft techniques with new technologies. If there is a map of somewhere you particularly would like, Haptic Lab offers custom made orders also.

Chiaozza

Brooklyn's small design studio Chiaozza is all about creating playful products for everyday life. And that is exactly how i'd describe these custom alphabet frames. The exploration of colour, shape and form are reflected in the functional sculptures. All work is done by hand, locally in New York. Love them!

The Animal Print Shop

Sharon Montrose is the photographer behind The Animal Print shop, an online gallery and store that features affordable fine art photographs. Sharon and her husband Spencer create playful, yet sophisticated photographs specialising in animals. I first spotted Sharon's work in the nursery of stylist Erin Michael's new baby boy Jagger. The decor of his room is beyond cute! (See it here)

Anyway... here are some of my favourites from The Animal Print Shop...

Hank Bought A Bus

Hank Butitta is a recent Architecture graduate from the University of Minnesota. For his Master's Final Project, Hank purchased a $3000 school bus from Craigslist with the idea to convert it into a tiny living space. In just 15 weeks the 225sqft bus was transformed into an open, unrestricting portable home for just $6000, coming together to create the ultimate road trip vehicle. The project explores the idea of living small and helps to expand understanding of living in small spaces, in a very fashionable way! See details of the bus and Hank's road trip around America here.

New York Fashion Week is still ongoing, and the amount of incredible designs on show are gorgeous! These designs are by New York designer Lyn Devon who was recently married. Her Spring 2014 collection is inspired by her pre-wedding honeymoon in the Sahara Desert and Marrakech. I love the lines, colours and classic look it invokes...
